Goats are coming to clean up the vegetation around the headwaters of Spa Creek. Shortly after Labor Day goats will be used to naturally cut down the growth along the Creek in the area between Lincoln Drive and Ritchie Lane.
Since the sides of the stream are so steep, we all believe that goats will be the perfect landscapers for that area. The goats will be brought in by their owner, will be penned in by fencing so that they eat only what they are meant to eat, and will be much quieter than human landscapers with mowers and trimmers.
Goats are used by many groups to clean up invasive vines growing up trees, clean up areas which are difficult for humans to reach and are much more fun to watch. We are all free to watch the goats but are not to call them or go too close to them.
DO NOT APPROACH THE GOATS.
They cannot be disturbed while doing their work. They need to concentrate on clearing
the area instead of being distracted by human interaction. The goats know what they are
doing and do not need any guidance or direction. We do ask that if a goat(s) is/are seen
wondering away from the enclosed area that a City of Annapolis representative be
contacted.
